Midpoint Internship Progress Report

Hey Everyone! Welcome to my new blog post. This blog includes a progress report of all that I’ve been able to achieve over the past eight weeks.

My internship is now more than halfway done and I’m making progress with each passing week. It has been a great learning experience till now.

My role as an intern!

My Outreachy project is Inkscape: On-canvas Align and Distribute Upgrade and my task is to develop new functionality that will allow the Inkscape users to align and distribute the selected items on the canvas itself. To achieve this, I have created a new mode in the select tool. When this mode is active, a new set of handles are visible on the screen. The users can select the items on the canvas and click on these handles to align the object with respect to the bounding box. These handles can also be dragged to resize the bounding box and change the distribution of the selected objects.

My Project at Inkscape

Hey Everyone!! Welcome to another blog of my Outreachy journey. It’s the end of the sixth week of my Outreachy Internship and this week’s blog is about my community and the project I’m working on. The prime focus of this blog is to introduce Inkscape to the newcomers from a newcomer’s perspective.

Everyone Struggles

Hello, Everyone!!

The blog prompt for this week’s Outreachy blog post is ‘Everyone Struggles’. In this blog, I’ll be talking about some of the struggles that I faced in this journey. The struggle began for me from the very first day I thought about applying for Outreachy. During that time, it was a big challenge for me to step out of my comfort zone and contribute to open-source projects. Cut to the present day; I love contributing to the Inkscape codebase.

Hello, Outreachy!

Hey Everyone!

I’m Kavya Jaiswal, a 21-year student from India. I’m pursuing B.Tech in Information Technology and Mathematical Innovations from Cluster Innovation Centre, University of Delhi. On the 17th of this month, I got accepted as an Outreachy Intern for the 2021 summer cohort. I’ll work with Inkscape this summer on the Project “Inkscape: On-Canvas Align and Distribute Upgrade” mentored by Martin Owens. I’m glad to start my internship with Inkscape. This blog is about the first stage of my journey with Outreachy.
